Banksy Life Story…
Banksy is an graffiti artist who quit school early in life and started spraying graffiti’s on the streets walls. Banksy was expelled from one of his school and he spent some time in jail (“Banksy.” Par.2). he tried tagging graffiti his first time when he was 14 years old, in the beginning he was a really slow with spraying he started practicing and got better. He has come in from the cold street to the prosperous warmth of London galleries and auction house. The rush began in February when Sotheby’s sold seven of Banksy work in oil, enamel, acrylic, and spray-paint, Bon hams took up the baton by selling “Space girl and Bird” he sold for $288,000 and the Bird for $594,800 (“Laughing all the way…” Par.1). Banksy was born in 1975 in Bristol, United Kingdom. “The one word phenomenon never the less became one of 2006’s most talked about personalities.” That same year he brought his own brand of subversive. (“Banksy.” Par.2). the reason why Banksy quit school was because he father gave him an advice and he decided to follow his advice and quit school when he was 17 years old (Whitelocks. Par.1).His father was detained during the raid in Layton stone. Banksy first graffiti’s images that he sprayed were cartoon images. Banksy’s peculiar but comical figures had become something of a cult phenomenon in London (“Banksy.” Par.3).
One of the conventional exhibitions of his art was held in a warehouse in 2000. In 2005 Banksy tagged at four major museums in New York City including the Museum of Modern Art. Banksy works have appeared in several places outside of England (“Banksy.” Par.6). Banksy always wanted to keep his real identity a mystery. He uses to break into places making graffiti and leavening the place without stealing and thing. He was a robber he just liked doing his thing and leavening the place. In 2006 he did a prank by painting a really big doll in Disney. Most of his graffiti appeared in a bunch of different places not just in one place. (“Banksy.” Par.5). In 2004 Banksy painted a giant rat holding a machine gun at a banned white house. The house was in Bristol on Berry Street as part of Liverpool’s Biennial art program in 2004 (“Banksy.” Par.3). after that Banksy started painting various buildings with his tag. Banksy painting is worth millions at an auction even though he didn’t like he painting was sold. Banksy painted the picture black in white because it shows a vivid color and the house looks banned and the looks really old and the walls are kind of cracked. The reason why the rat is holding the machine gun I think it’s because his protecting the house like if the house was his. Banksy paints like to paint a lot of rat because it’s his tag. The reason why his tag is rats I think it’s because he tags a lot of different places around the world and there are rats all over the world too. On the image he drew the rat has a mad face on it if it was telling people not to get near the house which it’s a reason why his holding the gun. The rat is tall as the house windows and the gun is big as the house door and windows.
Banksy painted another picture in New York City of a rat wearing a suit and holding a brief case in one hand and on the other hand his holding an umbrella, the brief case his holding has a lot of money coming out. The picture looks like it’s painted in a Broadway kind of because there are a lot of people walking. On the painting behind the rat it says “LET THEM EAT CRACK.” What Banksy wanted to say with that image is that hard working people not to bother with the other people that don’t care about life for example hustler, robbers, crack heads. Just do what you got to do and forget them let them do what ever they want. And the shows the rat with a lot of money which mean if you don’t care about people around you that do crack you will be rich and get a lot of money. The Background of the painting is white and the rat is kind of a grayish color to grab people’s attention even though the picture is really big. Members of the public are being asked whether a piece of graffiti attributed to Banksy should stay, and more than 85% have given the “artwork” their backing. The vote was taking place in Sutton, despite the council normally operating a zero tolerance graffiti policy. The council which his responsibility for removing graffiti said to the people to be aware people should hold strong views on the issues because they never know what kind of graffiti can pop up. So the people had till the end of the month to vote. (“Banksy graffiti goes to the vote.” Par.1-2). “In 2008 pest control a group set up to authenticate Banksy’s work, would not verify any of the street pieces because they were removed from their original setting.” (“Banksy works unsold.” Par.1). Rooted in graffiti culture and its attitude towards the world street art is regarded as post graffiti movement. “As a vernacular art form, street art, suck as the work of British artist Banksy deals with activism reclamation and subversion and allows artist a platform to reach a broader audience then traditional art forms.” (Chung. Par.2).
He travels across the global to stimulate political dialogue on social issues by creating sites and specific art, often in combination with stenciling techniques. Banksy pieces viewers to reflect on established social practices, and the power of the art world to define standards. To the government commission public art and street art is illicit and subversive in nature. One of Banksy art work of two policemen kissing each other has been seen in London streets. “The representation of these policemen forces pedestrian to revisit their conceptions of homosexuality and masculinity and to confront the issue of homophobia.” (Chung. Par.8). In societies including America heterosexual couples are often free to show their affection in public while homosexual couples cannot. So the image of the two policemen kissing can be used to concerns and hopefully to develop respect towards differences among human beings. The street art reflects the unedited world in which we live in today (Chung. Par.8-9). By the picture of the two police man kissing is kind of disrespectful for the Britain police because a lot of them mind no be homosexual and by the picture that Banksy drew everyone might think all the cops are in Britain. If I was a police man and lived in Britain I would tell someone to go there and erase the painting. By the painting it doesn’t look like they cops are only kissing but it shows they are actually touching each other and feeling each others body. Banksy painted the picture near a pole near by the corner of the street so it looks like they were hiding from people. What Banksy is trying to show is that the cops in Britain do things behind peoples back.
While Banksy kept the New York guessing about where his next mural or installation may pop up the council in London ordered that one of his works must come down there the BBC reported (“Council votes to remove Banksy Mural In London.” Par.1). Later on Banksy decided to make a film on himself. In the movie he played the roll of a hooded figured always wearing sweater with a hood on his head so people wouldn’t see his face. He had a voice that makes him sound like Kethy Burkey. He explains how he came to meet Guetta and inadvertently helped unleash him on the world as a fully-fledged artist. Guetta has become a huge commercial success despite by his creativity. In the movie Banksy did on himself Guetta was in it and they did spray graffiti’s together in the movie (Tookey. Par. 1-7). Workers removed graffiti’s that could be sold for hundreds or thousands of pounds just like they removed the one from Bristol Museum. “Nathan Wellard and Maeve Neal of England made a good investment when they bought a $2,000 house trailer 11 years ago. They invited a than unknown artist who called himself Banksy to spray-paint a mural on the trailer. Now that they have a family and need more space and now that Banksy is a world famous artist they pair have put the house trailer up for sale they’re asking a cool $1million.” (“What they got for it…a Banksy trailer.” Par.1-2). “Banksy largest and longest running exhibition project to date, was in Bristol city Museum. Thought out the months of preparation and during the 36hours shutdown period during Banksy the self-proclaimed. His crew took over the museum for installation; no one ever caught a simple of the man himself. In true Banksy style though the whole operation was top secret with only a handful of museum staff.” (Weaver. Par.3). One of Banksy painting he did on a wall of a hobo sitting down holding a sign up saying “ I WANT CHANGE” and on the top of the sign it says keep your coins. His wearing a black clothes with a hoodie and the sign is white with blue letters what his trying to show is that people should keep the coins instead of throwing them out because after that it become change instead of coins.
My favorite painting out of all the painting Banksy did was a painting he drew two army guys one of them is holding a gun and looking out and the other one is painting the peace sign on the wall but the cool thing about is that all of this is drawn out on the wall and it looks so real. The army clothes and the gun have so many details. Looks like they two army mans don’t want peace because they are drawing the peace sign the peace sign is really big and it’s the size of the wall and they are painting but at the same time they are looking out if someone is coming. The sign is bold and think red like if it was representing the color of blood, and near the wall with the painting there’s teddy bears someone probably murdered or just died there. So he decided to draw that picture that to represent peace for everyone.
